When a homeowner in a small village near Bishop’s Stortford, Hertfordshire, requested a new wooden gate installation with automated operation, installer Matt Pindred was brought in to deliver the project. The client’s requirements were clear: a smooth, reliable opening system that could be operated via remote fobs or keypad, offering both convenience and security.
To meet these needs, Matt selected the Comunello SKY 220 kit—a complete automation package designed for swing gates. The kit includes:
- 2 × SKY 220 actuators
- 1 × SWIFT 24V beacon
- 1 set of DART thru-beam photocells
- 2 × VICTOR 2-channel remote fobs
- 1 × Control unit
- 1 × AC-40 CE signage label
For mounting, Comunello AC-61 brackets were used to secure the actuators to the gate posts and gate leaves.
The SKY range caters to a variety of gate sizes and weights:
- SKY 220 – for leaves up to 2.2m and max 250kg
- SKY 300 – for leaves up to 3m and max 500kg (intensive use)
- SKY 500 – for leaves up to 5m and max 500kg (intensive use)
This was Matt’s first installation using the SKY system, and he found the process straightforward thanks to the all-in-one kit format.

The finished installation provides the homeowner with a secure, easy-to-use automated gate, blending functionality with aesthetic appeal. By choosing the SKY 220, the project was completed efficiently, with minimal disruption and without the need for sourcing additional parts.
