The Safety Edges, or Mats have a terminal resistance of 8.2 k Ohm which is monitored for any changes by a continuously flowing no-load current. While the Sensors are not activated both safety relays are energised, but when one or more Sensors are activated and the total resistance sinks falls below the lower threshold (6.2 k Ohm) the relays are de-energised and the yellow LED illuminates indicating that the safety mat, safety edge or safety bumper has been activated. When an Error occurs in the Sensor circuit such as when the total resistance rises towards infinity (open circuit) or if the value rises above the defined threshold (11 k Ohm) the relays are de-energised and the red LED illuminates indicating a fault. BBC Bircher Smart Access set the standard when it comes to activation and safety products, providing market leading product in todays ever demanding safety market.
