Council found guilty after swing barrier fatality...

It has been reported to us that North Lincolnshire council have been fined when a fault with a horizontal swing barrier lead to the fatality of a man at a local sports field.

Andrew Matthews, aged 51 had been driving forward (similar to the barrier pictured within) when a fault in the barriers operation caused it to fall onto his windscreen, hitting his head. Mr Matthews sadly died from his injuries.

The court determined with the evidence of HSE Inspector Chris Gallagher, that this incident could have been avoided had the barrier been properly maintained.
